From Mr. Gary King, Sr.
To all of the community that has supported our endeavors, in support of our Loving Son, Gary King, Jr. 1987-2007
Hi, I'm Gary King, Sr. Thank you for logging on to our website, no matter how you found us, garykingjr.com, garykingjr.org, justice4garyking.com, our Yahoo group justice4garykingjr, or at one of our community meetings for justice for our slain son Gary King, Jr. , we thank you for your time and interest and caring.
My Family and I appreciate the support of our community and from around the country.
I do not want to sound biased, but our son Gary was truly the best. Since Gary was a little boy and attended Washington Elementary School In Berkeley, Gary had a unique ability to unite with Kids, Teachers, store Merchants, police officers; every segment of society. We were often surprised when we would go on family outings, whether to the movies or out to dinner, there would be someone there who knew Gary and was glad to see him. We were impressed with how many friends he had in the community and the good character of his chosen friends. He was well loved and Gary was a very loving son.
Growing up, he participated in sports and was a very fine athlete. His favorite sport was basketball. We were always impressed with our son's skills.
As Gary matured, he expressed concern as to why the police harassed him and his friends, other black youth, in and around the community. He wanted to know why. On numerous occasions , Gary had told me that he couldn't go to the store , to the movies or other day-to-day activities around our neighborhood without being harassed by the police.
Gary had learned the ways of manhood and responsibility. Persistent in his efforts, he had a job that he was very proud of. His family is very proud of him.
Gary was pure of heart and true of spirit. On September 20th, our son's dreams came to an end and our nightmare began. An Oakland Police Officer, who mistook Gary for a murder suspect, accosted our son coming out of a store at 54th Street and MLK Way. I was not there to witness what happened. If I had been, the outcome would have been different. My account of the events comes from what I heard from eye witnesses to the attack. I know that our son was attacked, tortured and killed by Oakland Police Sergeant Patrick Gonzales.
We love our son Gary tremendously and will continue to fight for Justice for our son, Gary King, Jr.
